Nebraska wrestler Jordan Burroughs won the 165 pound title at the Midlands Championship in Evanston, IL by beating the top wrestler in the country, Andrew Howe of Wisconsin, by decision, 10-7. 10th ranked Josh Ihnen (184), came up short to 6th ranked Travis Rutt, also of Wisconsin, 4-3 to capture a second place finish.
Burroughs, who entered the tournament as the 2nd ranked wrestler was named the Dan Gable Most Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament and improved his record to a perfect 18-0 on the season. Burroughs’ victory snapped Howe’s 48 match winning streak entering the finals.
Nebraska returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 15, when they travel to Grand Prairie, Texas, to take part in the Lone Star Duals. The Huskers will dual Stanford, Brown and Utah Valley.
