The Superintendent of Beatrice Public Schools is spending time reflecting back on the events that occurred Wednesday in the Millard School District where a high school senior opened fire wounding his principal and vice-principal before killing himself. The vice-principal died hours later.
Doctor Jon Lopez served five years as the Principal of Millard South High school where the shooting occurred. His son and daughter attend school at Millard South and was first informed of the incident from his son….
Lopez says his son was in the school’s cafeteria when an administrator entered the room informing all the students they needed to get in the kitchen immediately.
58-year old Vicki Kasper died hours later after being shot by 17-year old Robert Butler Junior. Lopez worked with Kasper while in the Millard School District.
Doctor Lopez says incidents like the one in Millard yesterday makes school officials, parents and students think about what would happen if an incident like that occurred locally.
The 17-year old Butler transferred to Millard South High School from Lincoln.
