Metal detectors are being considered for use at the public hearing for Nebraska’s anti-illegal immigration bill. The bill from Senator Charlie Janssen of Fremont would demand all Nebraskans have identification to prove they are citizens if apprehended for another offense by police. Judiciary Committee chair Brad Ashford of Omaha says he will consider the extra security.
“We’ll take a look at what protection is available, but we will access whatever protection the State Patrol, the Exec Board and the speaker feels is neccesary.”
The bill would also penalize employers for enticing illegal immigrants to work in Nebraska. This comes following a threatening letter sent to members of the judiciary committee.
