The new State Treasurer may be looking to move from the state capitol to the nation’s capitol. Treasurer Don Stenburg says he’s seriously considering a run for U.S. Senate in 2012. He thinks Ben Nelson is not doing what Nebraskans want.
“And I think frankly he embarrassed Nebraska with the Cornhusker kickback, heard a lot of that as I campaigned for State Treasurer. So I think we do need a new United states Senator and I’m looking very seriously at becoming a candidate.”
Stenberg says his focus now is on running the Treasurer’s office and reducing costs to taxpayers. He said he is eliminating the long term care savings plan based on the low interest from Nebraskans and the less than $500 million dollars invested. Money would be returned to the investors.
