Governor Dave Heineman is delivering his State of the State address this morning. Heineman is pointing out the tough decisions that will have to be made as the state faces nearly a one billion dollar shortfall. The Governor is presenting a balanced budget to the legislature that aims to create jobs and grow business, and helps make the state a great place to get an education and raise a family.
“I have tried to minimize the reductions by transferring $260 million dollars from the cash reserve and using cash transfers of $68 million and reappropriations of $15.5 million.”
The Governor proposes the creation of the Business Innovation Act which would provide grants for research and help grow small business in the state. He also wants to create a Site and Building Development fund to increase the number of sites available for business development. Governor Heineman is proposing an Angel Investment tax credit which focuses on helping small businesses with less than 25 employees. Heineman also wants to encourage more college and university students to intern with Nebraska businesses.
