Investigators are still trying to find out what happened to cause a semi versus train wreck near Sidney.
The passenger of a semi destroyed by a train west of Sidney Wednesday morning remains in critical condition. The driver is listed as serious according to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff where the two men were air lifted after the accident.
The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office accident report identifies the driver as 52 year old Bruce Elam of Boise, Idaho and 43 year old Lawrence Clifford of Post Falls, Idaho.
The semi was attempting to cross railroad tracks on County Road 101 near Highway 30 around 8:20 a.m. when it was hit by the train. The accident was six miles west of Sidney.
The crossing does not have crossing guards, but does have railroad signs indicating tracks. Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub says the investigation is ongoing and a citation is pending.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected.
The impact left a wide debris field near the scene.
