Governor Dave Heineman says his budget proposal for the next two years does not reduce state funding for K-12 schools or the University of Nebraska. While Heineman’s proposal would keep state funding static, it does not replace some $140 million schools received this year from federal stimulus money. Heineman tells us that schools shouldn’t be surprised.
He says schools were told the stimulus money was one time money. Governor Heineman says the state cannot be expected to replace that money while it faces a possible $1 billion budget shortfall.
