Preliminary findings from an autopsy indicate a Blue Springs woman likely died of smoke inhalation, from a house fire yesterday morning.
66 year old Charlotte Taylor was found on the floor of her residence……which was a garage that had been converted to living quarters. Deputy Gage County Attorney Rick Schreiner says the fire is believed to be accidental.
47 year old Wes O’Keefe went into the home after observing smoke, in an attempt to rescue the victim. He suffered burns and was taken to a Lincoln hospital. A second man, 53 year old Tony Jones, was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital for treatment of injuries. The victim and the two men all lived at the residence, located at one-oh-two West 3rd, in Blue Springs.
Schreiner says it appears O’Keefe did all he could to save the victim, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. He says the cause of the fire is still not known, but Schreiner said a Nebraska Fire Marshal Deputy was examining the possibilities that it could have originated with an electrical power strip, or from smoking material.
Blue Springs and Wymore firefighters were sent to the scene between eight and nine am, Monday.
