State Senator Steve Lathrop of Omaha introduced a bill last week hoping to raise awareness among coaches and youth organizations on the dangers and warning signs of concussions. The bill will also prevent athletes from returning to practice or competition too soon.
Nebraska is one of several states drafting a bill and our state’s bill would require public and private high schools, as well as other youth sports organizations, to provide coaches with training on how to recognize symptoms of concussions.
The NFL has also stepped in to help. The league worked with the Nebraska State Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Brain Injury Association of Nebraska to layout the bill.
