Cyber bullying has been a hot topic as of late. Senator Lavonn Heidemann even went as far as to introduce a bill into the Nebraska Legislative Session to create a harsher punishment for “Cyber Bullies.” A former teacher from Nebraska City claims to have been a victim of such acts, and took part in a public hearing for the LB123. However her claim that the School Board she used to work for stood idley by, has not gone unanswered. The former Nebraska City Public Schools teacher, miss Debra Kubik, who was featured in the news recently due to an experience with “cyber bullying”, was said to have testified in a Legislative Session Public Hearing aimed at creating harsh penalties for those who take part in “cyber bullying.” Nebraska City Public Schools, on the other hand, has assured that action was taken & the issue was addressed, contrary to Kubik’s claim that the only action taken was an apology on the part of one student. The hearing at which Kubik gave her testimonial in support of the bill which would create a harsher punishment for “cyber bullies”, bill # LB123, introduced by Sen. Lavonn Heidemann, took place yesterday.
