In the State of the Judiciary speech this morning, Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Heavican says the court system continues to improve on care for abused and neglected children, talking about the Through The Eyes of the Child Initiative. That’s where local teams through the supervision of the court system work
“The teams have focused on developing practices and procedures to move abuse and neglect cases through our juvenile and county courts ans quickly as possible so that children in foster care can be placed in permanent, safe homes, in a more timely fashion.”
Heavican say there has been a 22% reduction in the amount of time a child spends in foster care before returning home to a safe environment. He says local school districts are also stepping up in helping foster care children return to a safe home and not be bounced from school to school or home to home. The State has received a grant to improve their information sharing projects for better communication in order to improve the lives of foster care children.
