A former western Nebraska prosecutor and his wife are charged with stealing more than $11,000.
Forty-eight-year-old Blake Edwards, former Keith County Attorney, and his wife, Shirley, were both arrested Monday on suspicion of felony theft. They posted bond a short time later.
The charges relate to the pre-trial diversion fees Edwards managed between 2007 and 2009 while in office. Shirley Edwards worked in the prosecutor’s office and helped manage the money, which was never submitted to the county.
Court documents say Edwards failed to keep proper records, and paid himself or his wife more than $11,000. Another $3,681 went to a trap-shooting club they ran. Edwards told officials the payments he received were reimbursement for items he purchased for the office.
