Senators who represent areas outside of Omaha are fighting against the wheel tax imposed on people who work in Omaha, but live elsewhere. Senator Tony Fulton of Lincoln couldn’t believe this tax was put into place.
“I was contacted by people who live in my legislative district, and their are indiviuals there who would be hit with this tax, when I first recieved emails from people, I thought they were joking.”
Other senators have pointed out that people who work in Omaha already eat there, shop, and spend their out of town dollars in other places. Fulton says if this tax is allowed to stand, it could lead to other communities doing the same thing.
