The Internal Revenue Service says some Nebraska taxpayers don’t have to pay anything to have their taxes filed. I-R-S spokesperson, Diane Fox, says you should not overlook Free File as an option.
She says it’s a free way for almost everyone to do their taxes with either brand-name software or online fillable forms that’s only available at www.irs.gov. Fox says there are some guidelines.
Fox says if you make $68,000 or less, you are eligible for free tax preparation software provided by 18 different companies. Fox says if you make more than $68,000, you are eligible to use the fillable forms.
Fox says the forms are essentially an electronic version of tax forms that work well for people who’re comfortable with filling out their own forms. She says you can e-file with the forms or with the other software. You can find out more about filing your taxes on the I-R-S website at: www.irs.gov.
