A resolution that would put lawmakers in charge of overseeing reform by the Department of Health and Human services is being approved in first round in the Legislature. Senator Kathy Campbell of Lincoln says what is currently happening to the care of foster children in the state is just not good enough.
“Lack of documentation, failure to pay foster parents and service providers, confusion regarding work responsibilities, and a lack of training and quality of care to ensure the safety and protection of Nebraska’s children.”
Senator Annette Dubas says she is appalled by the lack of respect foster parents and families are being treated. She says foster parents call for help and their phone calls are ignored. She says some foster parents have been made to feel like a bother.
