The Huskers travel to San Marcos, Texas for the Texas State Tournament to start the 2011 season this Friday. The Huskers will open against host Texas State with games against Air Force and Washington on Saturday and Missouri State on Sunday.
Head coach Mike Anderson and players met with the media and Anderson is ready to get going. “It’s been a long wait to get back out on the field. I’d say this past year has been a year for reflection for our kids, this staff and myself. It’s been a great chance for our kids to get rejuvenated and a great chance for our staff to be rejuvenated.”
The Huskers are coming off a 27-27 record and bring back some experience on the pitching staff and six starters in the field.
NU will be led offensively by Cody Asche, Kale Kiser and Josh Scheffert, who all hit over .300. On the mound, NU brings back three experienced right-handers. Second year players Tom Lemke and Tyler Niederklein and junior Sean Yost will be starters this season. Nebraska also welcomes back senior reliever Casey Hauptman, who ranked second with 23 appearances last season.
