Creighton freshman Carli Tritz scored a game-high 18 points, with 16 of those coming in the second half, but a 16-3 run by Northern Iowa to start the second half was too much for the Bluejays who lost 60-52 Thursday night at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, IA.
Creighton (15-8, 9-3 MVC) saw their five game win streak come to an end as they looked to tie the Panthers for the best record in Missouri Valley Conference play.
CU jumped out to a 12-4 lead and were still up 25-18 wiht just over six minutes to play, but UNI went on a 7-0 run to tie the game with 2:36 to play. Creighton took the lead 28-25 with 2:14 to go, but UNI finished the first half with an 11-3 run to help them hold a 29-28 lead at the break.
After Tritz scored the first basket of the second half, the Panthers scored 14 unanswered points over the next six minutes to go ahead 43-30. The Bluejays went nearly eight minutes between field goals at the start of the second half.
Creighton plays at Bradley on Saturday at 2 pm.
