After a 16-month search, Sidney City Manager Gary Person announced at a press conference Friday that Division Commander Mike Brown of the Coffeyville, Kansas Police Department has accepted the Police Chief job in Sidney.
Brown is expected to join the force in mid-to-late March and is ready to take on his new role.
“We’re very excited as a family to be coming to Sidney,” says Brown. “I’m very excited about getting to know all of your officers and working with them to see what we can do with the Sidney Police Department to make it even bigger and better than it is right now.”
According to Person, Brown has 18 years experience in law enforcement including a stint as a deputy sheriff in Butler County, Kansas. With the Coffeyville Police Department, Brown has overseen a four-person detective unit and 21-person patrol division. Brown has also obtained over $400,000 in grants for the force since 1999 and was system administrator for the department’s record management system. He earned his Administration of Justice degree from Wichita State in 1992.
Person says 35 people expressed interest in the position after former chief Larry Cox retired. Five finalists went through the written test and interview process.
