Jahenns Manigat had a career high 14 points and Gregory Echenique picked up in his first double-double as a Bluejay as Creighton never trailed in a 69-50 over Southern Illinois on Sunday night. Creighton is now 16-11 overall and tied for fifth in the MVC with an 8-7 league mark. SIU fell to 11-15 and is 5-10 in Valley action.
Doug McDermott had 15 points to lead Creighton while also hauling down seven rebounds. Echenique, who had seven double-doubles in 39 games at Rutgers, finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds in one of his best efforts yet. Manigat, a freshman, had 14 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and 6-of-8 at the line.
Creighton started quick against the Salukis, going ahead 20-8 thanks to an 11-1 run that included nine points by seniors Kenny Lawson Jr. (5) and Wayne Runnels (4). The Jays led by nine or more the rest of the night, including a 31-19 halftime margin.
Creighton returns to action on Wednesday with a home game against Illinois State. Tip-off is set for 7:05 pm
