A man facing significant jail time in Keith County for an alleged kidnapping has been arrested in Kansas following a failed purse-snatching. 20 year old Jade Cleveland of Keystone, Nebraska, was arrested recently in Salina, Kansas, after a 52-year-old woman reported that he pushed her to the ground and tried to take her purse.
Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said Cleveland was arrested at a motel a short time later, charged with attempted aggravated robbery, described as a “level 5 person felony.” Sweeney said Cleveland had a pellet gun in his possession that he may have used in the failed robbery.
Cleveland’s jury trial for a previous incident was set to begin on Tuesday (2/15), but has since been continued with no date listed. In Keith County, he faces charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, burglary, false imprisonment, terroristic threats, 3rd degree assault, criminal trespassing and disturbing the peace for an incident that occurred on October 19th, 2010, involving a 17 year old Ogallala girl. Cleveland was arraigned in Keith County District Court in early January and entered a plea of not guilty. There is now an order to revoke his bond following the new charge in Kansas.
