For the first time since the 1994 Big Eight Conference tournament, the Nebraska mens’ basketball team beat a top three team, knocking off #3 Texas 70-67.
The Huskers were down seven at the half, but battled back to take a 64-53 lead with 2:35 to go, but couldn’t seal the game missing six of 11 free throws. Texas got back to tie the game at 65-65, going on a 12-1 run with 1:07 left in the game. Then Brandon Richardson hit two free throws and Drake Beranek another to give NU the lead and Richardson put NU up by three again with 7.2 seconds left. Texas then missed a tying three pointer.
Richardson led NU with 15 points. Four Huskers scored in double figures. Following Richardson was Toney McCray with 14, and the big guys, Jorge Brian-Diaz with 11 and Andre Almeida with 10.
