The 18th ranked Nebraska softball team went 4-1 over the weekend at the Cathedral City Classic with a 6-1 win over Long Island on Sunday to close out the tournament. The win improved Nebraska’s record to 14-2, as the Huskers continued to match the best start in school history.
NU had won 11 in a row, before losing to Nevada on Saturday 5-1. There may have been a bit of a letdown after the Huskers opened the tournament on Friday with two big wins against nationally ranked teams.
The Huskers opened with a 4-3 win over #25 BYU, scoring the tie-breaking run in the seventh. Then in the nightcap, NU turned around and shutout 10th ranked Hawaii 3-0 behind junior Ashley Hagemann’s one hitter.
NU also beat Ohio State this weekend. The Huskers travel to Clearwater, FL this upcoming weekend for five more games.
