Nebraska now has two major Republican candidates seeking to unseat Democratic U-S Senator Ben Nelson. State Treasurer Don Stenberg made his announcement official today and is already criticizing Attorney General Jon Bruning. Stenberg says Bruning’s budget as AG is growing at 6 times the pace of when he was Attorney General.
“And so who is the fiscal conservative, I think the numbers speak for themselves.”
Bruning says that growth is because his office is handling expensive cases in house rather than contracting expensive lawyers through other state departments.
“Stenberg said I don’t want to deal with it, and so we paid these guys, $5, 6, 700 bucks and hour and tens of millions of dollars later the taxpayers were stuck with te bill. I did that work in house, so when I got here we tried to do a little truth in budgeting.”
Bruning and Stenberg will also face Republican Pat Flynn in the primary election in 2012. Senator Nelson has told us he plans on running for re-elect
