Fifth-seeded Creighton (18-13), which tied for fourth in the MVC with a 10-8 league record, will play fourth-seeded Northern Iowa (19-12, 10-8 MVC) in the second quartefinal on Friday at 2:35 pm. The winner of that game will play in Saturday’s 1:30 pm semifinal. Creighton and Northern Iowa split two meetings this season, with the home team winning each contest.
With back-to-back crowns, UNI is looking to become just the second school in tournament history to win three titles in a row. Southern Illinois is the only league school to win three-straight titles – doing so from 1993-95 in St. Louis. SIU’s other titles came in the first year of the tournament, 1977, and most recently in 2006. With 10 crowns, Creighton owns the most MVC Tournament titles of any Valley school, its last coming in 2007.
