A bill that would keep people from using drunkenness as a reason for committing a crime is advancing on 1st round in the Legislature. Senator Colby Coash of Lincoln says many have become voluntarily drunk or intoxicated on other substances, then used that as a reason to plead not guilty by reason of mental defect. Coash says that should not be used as a defense. 34 other states have similar laws. The law comes after a Lincoln man got high on cough syrup and them stabbed his friend to death.
