A 54-year-old Fairbury woman is jailed on a first-degree murder charge in the death of her husband. Jefferson County Sheriff Nels Sorensen says the case began as what appeared to be a medical call to a home about nine miles west of Fairbury on Friday afternoon.
After arriving at Byran LGH West in Lincoln, doctors determined foul play led to the death of 52-year-old Thomas Dejong. He appeared to have been severely beaten and was treated for multiple blunt force trauma to the head, torso and limbs. He was pronounced dead shortly before midnight.
After contact with the Lincoln police, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office began investigating the case, along with the State Patrol.
Susan Dejong was arrested at the Lincoln Police Department where she was being questioned about the incident and was transported to Fairbury following the arrest.
Formal charges have not yet been filed. Jefferson County Attorney Linda Bauer says there is much investigation yet to be done before she brings those charges.
Dejong remains in the Jefferson County Jail awaiting her initial appearance in court.
