The statute of limitations would be extended for children who are victims of sexual abuse under a bill presented to the Judiciary committee under a bill from Senator Pete Pirsch of Omaha. Pirsch says the law caps civil suits at the age of 24, his bill extends that age to 32.
“Child victims of sexual abuse suffer in extraordinary adults. Unlike fully developed adults, child victims are profoundly psychologically affected while they are in the midst of developing their capacity for trust, intimacy, agency, and sexuality.”
Pirsch says studies show that many children who were abused end up on the streets as prostitutes.
