Senior Jordan Burroughs (165) and junior Tucker Lane (HWT) both advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Thursday to remain in the hunt for a national title.
In his first match, Burroughs jumped out to a comfortable lead in the second period, before Ethan Headlee (Pitt.) for a 23-7 win. Burroughs picked up a win in his second match after Binghampton’s Justin Lister was injured.
Lane, a three-time NCAA qualifier, advanced to the quarterfinal round after his victory over Brendan Barlow (Kent St.) in the second round and a default win over Brett Cornell (Buffalo)
In the team race, the Huskers currently sit in 10th place with 18.5 points. Penn State is leading the tournament with 30.5 ponits, followed by Cornell, Iowa, Oklahoma State and American to round out the top five.
