The UNO hockey team earned the second NCAA tournament berth in school history on Sunday. The Mavs will be the third seed in the West Regional of the 2011 NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey championship and face Michigan in the opening round on Friday, March 25 at 4:30 p.m. CT at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
The Mavericks have posted a record of 21-15-2 this season. They finished 17-9-2 in the WCHA, good for third place before being eliminated in the first round of the WCHA playoffs by Bemidji State on March 12.
The Wolverines are 26-10-4 overall and won the CCHA regular season championship with a record of 20-7-1. They finished third in the CCHA playoffs.
The two teams already have played each other twice this season. UNO beat Michigan, 4-2, on Oct. 22 before the Wolverines rebounded for a 6-1 win the following night to close the two-game series at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich.
