Senators are debating a roads funding bill from Senator Deb Fischer of Valentine. The bill would divert a portion of the sales tax into a roads fund for the next 20 years. Speaker Mike Flood of Norfolk says the people of his community are relying on him to improve the state’s roads.
“Sometimes when you live off the interstate and you live in a town and your proud of your town, whether it’s Columus, or Scottsbluff, or South Sioux, well South Sioux is close to the interstate – you feel forgotten sometimes, you want to be connected to the rest of the state.”
Fischer’s proposal would bring in an estimated $125 million dollars for roads every year for the next 20 years.
