Creighton softball’s home-opening three-game series with Southern Illinois scheduled to start with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday has been changed. Due to the weekend forecast, the Bluejays and Salukis will now attempt to play two games on Sunday, cancelling one game of the Missouri Valley Conference series. The Jays and Salukis will not play on Saturday and are scheduled to play a doubleheader at noon on Sunday at the Creighton Sports Complex, weather permitting.
Creighton, which has played its first 24 games of the 2011 season away from home, is 11-13 on the season and 2-1 in MVC play. The Salukis, defending MVC champions and preseason co-favorites to win the title this year, are 16-10 on the year and 3-0 in league play.
Brent Vigness, who has 712 career wins, notched his 564th as Creighton’s head coach last Sunday. Now in his 18th season at CU, the most tenured softball coach in school history has tied CU Hall of Famer Mary Higgins’ school-record for wins.
