Westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near North Platte were closed for nearly nine hours Sunday after a deadly crash. It Happened early that morning at the Maxwell Interchange after a Semi and pickup collided. Police say it happened on a brigde when the pickup crossed the median and nearly hit the semi head on. Both vehicles ended up in the river bottom in the median. The pickup caught fire. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Driver of the Semi was treated and released from the hospital. Weather likely played a factor, with light freezing drizzle falling at the time of the accident. The westbound lanes from Maxwell to North Platte were not re-opened until noon Sunday.
