Douglas County Sheriff’s authorities would like to get their hands on the person who made a bogus call Monday night about a hostage situation at a home near 150th and Ida Streets. Douglas County Chief Deputy Sheriff Marty Bilek says the caller also contacted the residents of the home and told them an officer was on the way to arrest a family member for sexual assault.
“It was almost as if someone was trying to stage a conflict with law enforcement.”
Chief Deputy Bilek says the search is on for the person responsible.
“We are currently looking for the person who made this bogus phone call. It is a very serious matter when you stage confrontations with law enforcement.”
Chief Deputy Bilek says this call also put the family in danger.
“The person was not only threatening the residents there but also threatening law enforcement that would respond to that location.”
Deputies and a swat team and Omaha police officers surrounded the home while trying to make contact with the family inside. This was at 11:30. About four hours later a person inside contacted police. He or she had taken the phone off the hook and a relative helped get in touch with family who was sleeping and not aware of what was going on. They did report they too had been receiving harassing phone calls.
