Public jobs would be better compared with those in the private sector under a bill and amendment being proposed by Senator Steve Lathrop of Omaha meant to reform the Commission of Industrial Relations. The bill also will force the public sector to compare cities in Nebraska with those cities of similar size. Senator Dennis Utter of Hastings was part of the negotiations.
“I don’t see this bill as an endorsement of collective bargaining or a condemnation of collective bargaining.”
The bill also requires the CIR to use an employees entire compensation package when making comparisons, not just salaries.
