Omaha police continue to look into a case where a 12 year old boy was dropped off at Creighton University medical Center Monday morning by his parents. Officer Jacob Bettin says the boy is in good health but they want to find out why he was dropped off at the hospital.
“There is no physical injuries or anything of that nature. Initial indications show that the parent possibly was frustrated or there was a disagreement at home that led up to the child being dropped off.”
Before lawmakers adjusted the Safe Haven law, several older children were dropped off at hospitals. Officer Bettin says this is the first older child dropped off since those changes were made in 2008.
“Safe haven is for newborn babies only. A 12 year old would not be covered so that is why we are looking at possibly child neglect depending on what actually occurred before , the reasons for the child being dropped off.”
