A bill from Senator Pete Pirsch of Omaha that would add protection for hunting, fishing, and trapping to the State Constitution is getting some scrutiny from members. Senator Amanda Mcgill of Lincoln says the Constitutional Amendment is not needed, joking that we might as well add language to the constitution protecting our right to eat meat.
“We should protect the Constitution from any amendments that are not absolutely necessary. Our hunting and fishing rights are indeed very secure in Nebraska.”
Senator Annette Dubas of Fullerton says she supports hunting and fishing, but we have to be careful when it comes to making any changes to the Constitution. Senator Tom Carlson of Holdredge says other states have added such language to their Constitutions and says Nebraska should do the same to protect the rights of the people.
