Doane College scored five runs in the final two innings and capitalized on three Bruin errors in the ninth inning to defeat the Bellevue University baseball team 6-4 in non-conference action at Westgate Field. With the win, the Tigers improved to 21-8 overall while the Bruins fell to 14-15 this season.
The Bruins opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run RBI single up the middle by Juan Rodriguez that scored Jeremy Camacho and Spencer Duggan.
DC got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning on a RBI single to center field by Austin Tharp that allowed Anthony Hincy to cross plate to cut the Bruins’ lead in half, 2-1.
Bellevue answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI single to left field by pinch hitter Brandon Thompson, scoring Camacho.
The Bruins added their fourth run of the game on a sacrfice bunt by Tylor Pavel that allowed Bazant to score who opened the inning with a triple.
DC scored two runs with a pair of RBI singles off BU reliever Alejandro Partidas in the eighth inning and scored three runs on three hits, two walks and three errors to edge Bellevue, 6-4.
Bruins’ starting pitcher Sean McManus allowed one unearned run on two hits and two walks in 6.2 innings of work with three strikeouts in the no decision. Myles Arehart (1-1) picked up his first win of the season in relief and Tigers’ closer Mitch VandenBerge pitched a hitless ninth inning for his sixth save of the year. Jake Aylward (1-4) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in 1.1 innings.
