In four days, three people in the Omaha metro area are dead because of gunfire and 12 were injured. Omaha Police Chief Alex Hayes says this level of gun violence is unacceptable.
Wednesday afternoon at 4:30, 30 year old Otis Holford was shot in the face while inside the lobby at Creighton University Medical Center at 30th and Cass Streets in Omaha. Tom Chaussee was at the hospital and witnessed the activity.
“Some people come running out of the hospital and they are yelling and there were at least three, if not four police officers running toward us on the sidewalk with guns in their hands.”
Holford was rushed into surgery within minutes of the shooting and is expected to recover.
26 year old Anthony Green was arrested shortly after the shooting several blocks away and the gun was also recovered.
This was the second shooting within hours. Douglas County Deputy Tom Flynn was shot in the side while serving an arrest warrant. Deputies returned fire and killed the suspect, 37 year old David Cermak of Omaha.
An arrest warrant has been issued for 23 year old Tyree Phillips. He is wanted in the deadly shooting of 29 year old Joseph Piper at Seymour Smith Park in Ralston on Tuesday.
