Former Huskers Jordan Burroughs and Justin Ruiz and Nebraska Kearney’s Tervel Dlagnev won national titles Saturday at the U.S. Open Wrestling Championships in Cleveland and now move onto World Team trials this June.
Burroughs, NU’s only two-time NCAA champion, won his first freestyle national title by beating former Missouri standout Nick Marable 0-3, 1-0, 3-0 in the final at 163 pounds.
In the Greco-Roman competition, Ruiz won his seventh U.S. Open title. Ruiz has represented the U.S. five times at the World Championships, beat Zac Nielsen 1-0, 1-0 in the semifinals.
Tervel Dlagnev, a two-time NCAA Division II national champion at Nebraska-Kearney, won the freestyle title at 265 pounds.
