The Husker baseball team is at Wichita State tonight, after dropping two of three to Kansas over the weekend. Junior third baseman Cody Asche leads the Big 12 with 9 home runs, 18 doubles and is tied with 41 RBIs. He’s also hitting .348, ninth in the conference. Tyler Niederklein took a no-hitter into the sixth inning last week against Creighton will start. The home team has won this annual game the last five years.
The Shockers, under the direction of 34th-year coach Gene Stephenson, are 21-13 record. Chris O’Brien provides the majority of the offensive power for the Shockers, as he leads the team in batting average (.406), RBIs (43) and home runs (5). O’Brien is the only WSU starter hitting over .300.
Wichita State is one of the nation’s most aggressive teams on the basepaths, taking 67-of-76 attempted stolen bases. Freshman right hander Zach Beringer will start Tuesday night against the Huskers. Beringer is 1-1 with a 3.71 ERA. He has 18 strikeouts and 10 walks on the season.
