20 year old Aaron Shepherd will spend 90 to 120 years in prison for the beating and sexual assault of 19 year old Chrissy Schroeder of Ft. Calhoun last July. Brandi Preston is Schroeder’s best friend and says her recovery from this incident is truly a miracle.
“She is the strongest person you would ever meet. She is doing everything she can to help other people. She is taking each day at a time and moving forward.”
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says Schroeder was beaten beyond recognition and then left for dead on a north Omaha street.
“She was raped, hit with a rock in the head many times, beaten and left for dead. It’s a 1st degree murder case brought forth with will to live.”
Kleine says Schroeder is very lucky to be alive today.
“The defendant had said he had left her for dead. The photos of her at the hospital would tell that. She was unrecognizable. What she went through here is a miracle.”
Before Shepherd was sentenced he apologized for beating and sexual assault. He will have to serve at least 45 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
