The Airhogs came through in the clutch, scoring all of their runs with two outs, as Grand Prairie defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-3 in front of 1,167 fans at QuikTrip Park Monday night.
After the Saltdogs took a 1-0 lead on a Maikel Jova sacrifice fly in the top of the first, Grand Prairie responded with five runs in the last of the second to retake the lead, and added another in the third on a David Thomas solo home run.
Jova hit a line drive, two-run home run to left field in the sixth inning to pull the ‘Dogs within three, but that would be as close as Lincoln would get.
John Brownell (1-0) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out six and walking one to earn the victory. Lindsay Gulin lasted six frames, surrendering six runs on 10 hits while striking out three and walking two to suffer the loss. Jon Hunton worked a hitless ninth to record his third save.
Jon Nelson was hit by a pitch in the face in the top of the sixth inning and had to be taken out of the game. The Lincoln outfielder/designated hitter was then taken to a hospital for further examination.
With the loss, Lincoln drops to 2-3 on the season.
