Thursday night’s game between the Omaha Storm Chasers and Las Vegas 51s has been suspended and will be completed at 6:15 p.m. Friday, the Storm Chasers announced following a rain delay in the ninth inning.
The Chasers held a 5-3 lead entering the final frame, but Las Vegas rallied for four runs to take a 7-5 lead and still had the bases loaded with no outs when the rains came and the umpires halted play. By rule, the game must be continued due to the fact that the visiting team gained the lead during the inning in which the delay occurred.
Storm Chasers skipper Mike Jirschele, still seeking his 1,000th-career win as a manager, was ejected during the ninth and will rejoin the team in the dugout upon completion of the suspended game. Friday’s regularly-scheduled contest will begin at 7:05 p.m., or approximately 25 minutes following the conclusion of the suspended game.
