A controversial call led to two unearned runs for Gary SouthShore and helped in a 7-6 RailCats win over the Saltdogs in front of 3,119 fans at Haymarket Park Wednesday night. The loss was Lincoln’s sixth in a row.
It happened in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Lincoln’s Joe Ramos fielded a ground ball and threw it to shortstop Vance Albitz covering second base. The throw appeared to be in time, but the runner was ruled safe at the base, and Albitz was charged with an error.
Later in the innings, Cristian Guerrero ripped a two-out, two-run single to give the RailCats a 7-6 advantage and the lead for good. The three-run inning came just after Lincoln took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on a Blake Gailen RBI single and a Gavin Dickey run-scoring double..
