A Nebraska legislator is considering a run for U.S. Senate.
State Senator Deb Fischer of Valentine says she is being encouraged to take a look at the seat now held by Democrat Ben Nelson.
Fischer says she has plenty of time to sit down and have a serious conversation about the prospects of a candidacy with her husband and her three grown sons.
Fischer, a Republican, who will be term-limited after next year’s legislative session, says she enjoys the process.
She says, “I love public policy making; I think you can see that from the types of bills I introduced.” Fischer successfully introduced and passed major bills dealing with road and water funding.
Fischer says she plans to concentrate on state work in the near term, but will think about the Senate race.
There are currently two Republicans running for the nomination, Attorney General Jon Bruning and state Treasurer Don Stenberg.
