Senator Ben Nelson received a briefing Sunday from U-S Army Corps of Engineers officials about the flooding situation along the Missouri River. Nelson expressed confidence in the way the Corps is handling the release of millions of gallons of water from Gavins Point Dam saying predicting the weather or a flood is anyone’s guess. He stated it is very difficult to look six months into the future with the snowmelt and other weather conditions.
With that, Senator Nelson stated his office is receiving calls from residents wanting answers ranging from how could this have happened to will this interrupt the College World Series later this month in Omaha.
The Corps says June 14th is the day when 150-thousand cubic feet of water per minute will be released from the Gavins Point Dam. That release will continue until mid-August and flooding will be a concern until the end of the year.
