More than 425 public health experts are in Omaha for the annual meeting of the Association of Public Health Laboratories. Dr. Steven Hindrichs is the Director of the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and says it took five years of hard work to bring this conference to Nebraska. As participants arrive, they will surely hear news of the flood situation and could have valuable input in how to react.
Dr. Hindrichs says this will once again prove how important government is in emergency preparedness and response as well as the health risks associated with flood conditions. He stated those could range from safe drinking water to mosquito spread.
Dr. Hindrichs says several topics include environmental issues, emerging infections disease, emergency preparedness, food safety, newborn screening and global health.
The conference is being held at the Qwest Center in Omaha through June 8th.
