Adding to concerns of flooding along the Missouri river, officials are warning residents along the Platte River in eastern Nebraska’s Dodge and Saunders counties that the river is rising and it will rise into some yards and buildings and maybe even higher. Governor Dave Heineman calls it a very difficult situation and asks Nebraskans to remain vigilant through this difficult time.
Heineman says he is proud of how everyone has come together. He says everyone is working hard to sandbag almost every community along the Missouri and Platte rivers.
Heineman describes the flooding as a 500-year flood and levels the highest we may ever see in a lifetime. He says the flooding is expected to last through the summer.
