Omaha Public Power District issued an emergency alert this morning at the Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant after smoke was seen in one of the switch rooms. OPPD spokesman Jeff Hanson says the plant’s fire extinguishing equipment was activated but the have not been able to determine if there was an actual fire. The smoke has cleared from the building and there is no danger at the plant. The alert status was terminated at 1:15 Tuesday afternoon. The Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Plant is currently in outage, meaning it is offline for refueling.
