U-S Senator Ben Nelson is keeping close tabs on the Keystone Pipeline location in Nebraska. The Environmental Protection Agency reported they are not comfortable with a state department report on the safety of location near the Ogallala Aquifer and the safety of oil transport. Senator Nelson says it is a good thing that more than one set of eyes is looking at this issue. He says different opinions and different studies will insure the job is done right.
Senator Nelson says the Congressional Research Service stated the location of this pipeline is actually a state issue and he says state officials need to be on their toes to make sure this project is done right.
Senator Nelson says Congress should continue to have oversight over the state department and the testing and research on the safety issue but the location is up to the state of Nebraska, the governor, the legislature and the state EPA.
